Bikes & Micromobility
Micromobility, which includes bikes and scooters, can help with first and last mile transportation by connecting people to public transit. The CCAT System supports muti-modal journeys by addressing how customers may transport bikes, electronic bicycles and stand‐up electronic scooters on CCAT vehicles.
Bikes Allowed
Bikes that meet the following requirements are permitted on CCAT buses:
Conventional, single seat, two-wheeled bikes
Both wheels must fit into bike rack wheel slots, and the support arm/hook must fit over the top of the bike wheel (fenders ok).
Folding bikes
These bikes are welcome inside the bus, provided they’re folded and fit underneath the seat and can be kept out of the aisle.
Electric assist and e-bikes
E-bikes are allowed if they do not exceed the 55 pound weight limit of the bike racks, but many electric-assist bikes weigh more than this limit. Your own e-bike may be ok with the battery removed if it weighs less than 55 pounds and a removable battery may be brought inside the bus.
Size and weight limits
The rack can hold the following bike sizes safely:
- Wheel sizes 16-29 inches in diameter
- Wheelbase up to 44 inches
- Tire widths up to 2.3 inches
- Weight limit of 55 pounds per rack position (including any bike accessories)
Micromobility Devices Allowed
Micromobility devices include electric bicycles (e-bikes), electric scooters (e-scooters), electric skateboards, and other small devices powered in full or in part by electricity. Micromobility devices (MD) are permitted under the following parameters:
- Charging MDs in or on any CCAT bus or facility is prohibited
- MDs must remain powered off during transport
- MDs with removable batteries shall be removed and kept with the owner inside the bus
- MDs and their batteries must never be left unattended, discarded, stored, locked to any CCAT asset within the system, or abandoned for any reason
- MDs must use sealed gel, lithium ion, or NiCad batteries that are Underwriter Laboratory (UL) certified and listed
- MDs must not have damaged batteries nor emit environmental contaminants
- Foldable MDs with a wheel size of 20 inches or less, must be folded or compacted and carried on board and secured on one’s lap or under a seat
- Doors, seats, aisles and emergency equipment must be kept clear
- Property of a shared or rented MD provider is not allowed on board a CCAT bus
